If you are an introvert like me, you'd most probably feel cozier sipping your coffee at the comfort of your own home. It takes me a godawful amount of convincing before I finally decide to leave the house. My mom is the ultimate witness to my morning grumpiness and non-stop complaints of how people stress the crap out of me, so and so. Don't get me wrong, I do like to interact with people, just in a very minute number---4 people max! So when my friend told me we should try out the new coffee shop in town, I refused several times until I finally gave in.
The name of the place is called, "The Rollin' Pin". Before I actually came to the place, I was imagining a '60s Diner-ish setting, but boy was I totally wrong. The place had a very cool modern ambiance to it. I was really expecting to be greeted with something warm but
I didn't feel a certain sense of disappointment though because even if their interior design was rather far-fetched from the name itself, you got to give some credit to how fantastic that combination is. The location of the cafe and the interior design is reminiscent of one of my favorite San Francisco, California based Bakery and Cafe called Craftsman and Wolves. It's frigging brilliant.
I was not surprised to find the painting of my friend, Kuya Hersley Casero plastered on their wall as nearly any restaurant that is local in origin has one of his works up on their walls. He's a very popular local artist who does paintings like these and photographs as well. Doesn't it just provide a comforting feeling while lounging inside?
Outside the cafe is a downhill road overlooking the beautiful bay of Dumaguete City. Once you alight from the Bus Stop behind Silliman University Elementary School and or the Dumaguete City Pier, a few steps further you'll see The Rollin' Pin Cafe.
Going back to what I was saying, I often find drinking coffee rather more pleasant in cozy locations such as...wait for it...my home, I do however still believe in exploring local places that serve not merely coffee but tea as well. Most of the people close to me know how obsessed I am with tea.
The Rollin' Pin serve pastries ranging from small sampler sizes to huge hyperglycemia-inducing ones. I wish they also served a bajillion different breads for the bread lovers in all of us.
The barista who took our order was very accommodating. I kept asking how some pastries tasted like, and he was kind enough to tell me which ones were the crowd-pleasers. To give you an idea what I'm talking about, take a look at some of these pastries.
I think I ordered cucumber and lemon as a refreshment since the high morning sun was evaporating the last reserves of my already dehydrated body. My friend ordered cold green tea slushy. If I remembered it correctly.
My drink was refreshing, the taste, well I was rather surprised as I was expecting something sweet to greet my tongue, but it's not. It was leaning to the watery side. That's good if you just want to cool down. I also bought Acacia Sparkling Water to get even more hydrated. Geez, I was really that thirsty!
In conclusion, my Food Trip experience at The Rollin' Pin was a good one. In fact, the following night after my mother's birthday party, we headed out to town to chill at Rizal Boulevard and before going home, I bought everyone some coffee and Chocolate Cheesecake. Yum!
